How to Maintain a Riding Mower

Updated: Dec 29, 2021

How to do a simple service on a riding mower

I'm going to do a routine maintenance on a riding mower-air filter, oil filter, and change oil. I'm going to drain the oil - go around and check all the tires for air. Look for anything loose - loose bolts - anything showing any kind of wear or anything like that. So let's get this oil change started.

When you want to do your oil change you might need an oil filter wrench. Sometimes you can get them off by just by hand.

Tires should have about 10-15 pounds of air pressure in them.

Some other things you want to check for: you want to check your pulleys-make sure there's no play in them-look for any grease coming out of the back rear-check the fins on the fan on the transaxle.

Any any moving part on the mower is where you want to lubricate it and then it'll make the mower last longer.

Check your pulleys- take some spray lubricant and spray in there.

You want to check the wheels-maybe give them some oil.

The mower will be completely washed once I am finished servicing it. That's the last thing I do; you know cleanliness is godliness.

Look at the condition of the blades to see if they need to be sharpened.

Spray some kind of lubricant in the deck to help keep it clean and I noticed it helps somewhat keep debris from collecting. A good thing to use to clean it off is a good putty knife just to scrape it off.
